Project description

Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb (AWB) District Emsland operates four central landfill sites in Dörpen, Wesuwe, Flechum and Venneberg. Citizens can dispose of recyclables and waste at these landfill sites. A suitable hall cladding was sought for an open residual waste hall at the Venneberg site in Lingen in order to ensure optimum protection from the weather, especially rain and wind. This should also ensure good ventilation and reduce the swirling of the piled-up waste.

Solution

After extensive consultation, the client decided in favour of Tectura textile rain and wind protection nets, which are particularly suitable for closing off large openings in open-air halls or cold storage halls. While the eaves side of the residual waste hall was closed with a 30 m x 6 m net, two 20 m x 6 m nets were used on the gable ends. The wind net was attached directly to the building structure using aluminium Keder rails and ratchets. This meant that there was no need for a substructure, as is required for trapezoidal sheeting, for example.

Benefits

The attached textile facades not only protect against rain, they also prevent the wind from being channelled and thus significantly reduce turbulence in the area of the piled waste. This means that the waste remains in the partially open hall and does not fly around. The PVC-coated PES fabric used (60/60-1 with a wind resistance of approx. 94%) not only protects against the effects of the weather but, unlike conventional materials, also ensures natural ventilation and is permeable to daylight. In addition to the possibility of customising the Tectura textile façades, the client was particularly impressed by the efficient weather protection and simultaneous use of daylight, as well as the uncomplicated and quick installation.
