Acting sensibly in new ways
In the 1990s, I planned a new cowshed for our family farm. Back then, conventional dairy barns were built low and were cramped, resulting in warm conditions and poor air quality. To prevent the technology from freezing and enable the milker to work in the warmth, the cows lingered in their own odour. However, I was convinced that a barn was not built for the milker, but for the cows, and at that time I used windbreak nets from HUESKER.
Today, we have long understood that the well-being of cows is not only a moral argument, but also brings economic benefits to the farmer. A dairy cow performs a great deal better when it produces milk. A farmer first has to nurture and care for a small calf for two years, provide it with food and care, until milk is available when it becomes an adult cow. Ergo, it is economical to treat a cow well and to always provide her with fresh air so that she has a long life and can give birth to a new calf every year.
HUESKER cares about animal welfare
Over the past 30 years, HUESKER has continued to develop and expand its product range in order to offer dairy cows ideal conditions in the barn the same as being outside. What began with simple windbreak nets are now fully operational systems consisting of roll-up ventilation systemsthat can open and close entire side walls depending on the weather. A fan system ensures the supply of fresh air even when there is a lull. A lighting and ventilation ridge, as well as LED lights, make the interior of the barn as bright as day. Nothing is left to chance, because a sophisticated control system monitors the air quality and regulates the interaction of all components. By removing harmful gases and dust and avoiding heat stress, we actively promote animal health.
Motivated for the future
Of course, we have economic motivations for the development, production and distribution of such systems. We have been supplying effective farm management systems to farmers for the last 30 years. Nevertheless, it promotes the motivation of everyone involved – it simply gives us a good feeling when the cows are performing better thanks to our systems. They feel comfortable in the barn and are staying healthy. And it's always a pleasure to see how alert and happy they are.
Yours, Hubertus
